    Priority Nursing Diagnosis for HypertensionHypertension is also referred as high blood pressure. Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing up against the blood vessel walls. Higher the pressure the harder the heart has to pump. Hypertension can cause several illness such as heart attack or heart stroke, heart failure, kidney failure, aneurysm.

    Symptoms of Hypertension:

    Nearly 35% of people are not aware that they have high blood pressure. Extremely high blood pressure may show some symptoms such as:

    • Headaches
    • Dizziness
    • Irregular Heartbeat
    • Traces of blood in the urine
    • Problem in eye sight
    • Several chest pain
    • Nausea

    Risk Factors of Hypertension:

    Though the specific reasons of hypertension are mostly anonymous. There are various factors that have been highly linked with condition.These include:

    • Smoking
    • Overweight/ obesity
    • Diabetes
    • Lack of physical exercise
    • Sodium Intake
    • Deficiency of Vitamin D
    • Lack of magnesium, potassium and calcium consumption
    • Alcohol
    • Medicines such as birth control pills
    • Family history of hypertension

    Diagnosis & Treatment:

    Hypertension can be diagnosed by doctor who measures blood pressure with sphygmomanometer. Adults should have their blood pressure examination in every 1 to 2 years. Doctor may also test for High cholesterol levels, Echocardiogram or Electrocardiogram, Basic Metabolic panel or Urinalysis or ultrasound of the kidneys.  Main goal of treatment is to lower blood pressure. Treating hypertension is very important for decreasing the risk of heart attack, heart failure, and heart stroke. Important changes in lifestyle includes drop smoking, lose weight, healthy diet, reducing sodium intake, regular exercise, consumption of alcohol should be limited. A glass of beetroot juice everyday can easily reduce blood pressure in hypertensive patients.  Beetroot, Fennel, Cabbage, Lettuce, Radishes, Carrots are high in nitrates which helps to reduce blood pressure. For safety reasons or if you’re travelling you can also wear a hypertension medical bracelet.
