Food-AllergiesIf you have a child with allergies, then you know the worry and concern that goes along with it. Keeping your allergic child safe is the main priority. There are many things that you can do to ensure that safety, and ease your mind.

Keep a list of allergies on the refrigerator to avoid any slip-ups by baby sitters or other family members. Be sure to read every single label, to ensure there are not any hidden ingredients that will provoke a reaction. Label foods that are unsafe for the allergic child for extra protection.

Avoid cross contamination of allergens when preparing meals for the family. Be sure to thoroughly wash all utensils, cutting boards, and counters. Everyone should wash their hands as well to prevent the allergens from spreading from one person to the other.

Assemble emergency kits that include any medications, an auto injector pen, and any specific allergy plan that has been put into place by your physician. These kits should be in each vehicle in the family, and also in the home.

If your child is in school, make sure that all teachers and the nurse know about the situation and have a detailed treatment plan and any needed medications or auto injector pens readily available to them if need be.

One of the most important things that a parent can do is have your child wear a medical identification bracelet. Wearing one of these pieces will alert others that there is an allergy issue, so that treatment may be correctly administered. These lifesaving pieces of jewelry come in several different styles to suit any preference. A life could be spared in a matter of minutes, so by wearing the alert bracelet, the correct emergency plan can be put into action immediately.
