Hypoglycemia is a condition occurring when your blood sugar (glucose) is too low. Blood sugar level is considered low if it is below 70 mg/dl. Blood sugar at or below this level can harm you. Hypoglycemia occurs when:

• Severe heart, kidney, or liver failure or infection
• Types of weight-loss surgery

Your doctors will use below three criteria also known as Whipple’s triad to diagnose hypoglycemia. Whipple’s triad has the following factors:

• Signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia. You won’t be able to recognize the signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia during your initial visits with your doctor. Your doctor will ask you to fast overnight which will then allow hypoglycemic symptoms to occur so that a person can make a diagnosis. In some cases, symptoms may even occur after a meal, your doctor will then want to test your glucose levels after a meal.
• Blood Sample.Documentation of low blood glucose when the signs and symptoms occur. It is necessary to analyze the blood sample of your blood and your doctor will check this out once your symptoms show up.
• Disappearance of the signs and symptoms. The third part of the diagnostic triad draws in whether your signs and symptoms go away after your blood glucose levels are raised. In addition, your doctor will likely conduct a physical examination and review your medical history.
