It is often said that prevention is better than cure. However, if you ever get in touch with someone who has had no experience with vaccination, you will come across completely different views. This is mainly because we are quite obsessed with the fact that vaccination is not helpful. There is even a debate on this issue. However, the truth is that vaccination is the first step that you must take for immunity. Imagine the financial and emotional burden of healthcare that will fall upon your family due to the lack of immunization. It would certainly be devastating and it must be adopted by anyone who claims that he wants to live a healthier life.

Everyone in your family must get a flu shot every year. Apart from this, the most basic shots include Tdap shots for prevention of whooping-cough and tetanus. This needs to be received once by everyone and pregnant women need this shot with every pregnancy. The Tdap shot will help prevent diphtheria and tetanus for the next 10 years. People who are over 60 years of age must also get Shingles shots. Those who are 65 or older must get the PPSV or the pneumonia shot. It would help them a lot in getting over any issues earlier and avoiding any chances of pneumonia becoming a major trouble for them.

For young children in your family, there is a host of vaccines that need to be administered. The vaccines administered now will be helping them throughout their lives. The most common ones include vaccines for Rotavirus, measles, mumps, tetanus, polio, diphtheria, influenza type B, pneumococcal conjugate amongst others. They also need to be given hepatitis B, HPV and meningococcal vaccinations as well. As adults, flu shots, pneumococcal polysaccharide and tetanus vaccinations will be the most important. If there are important vaccination shots that you have missed, talk to the doctor and let him know.

You must be maintaining a family vaccination chart that showcases the desired number, names and frequency of all the vaccinations that have been administered in your family. This shall help you a lot in ensuring that you get to make the best of vaccine shots and keep yourself and your family protected at all times. In case you can, look for a booster dose of any vaccination for yourself and for your kids. In that way, you will be able to become more immune to certain diseases and protect your family too.
