Fragile X Syndrome (FXS) is a genetic condition that affects twice as many boys as it does girls—a dominant gene carried on the X chromosome,
males are more likely to be affected as they only have one X chromosome, whereas females have 2; only one affected X gene must be present, but this could be why FXS is often milder in girls—only one third of females with FXS have intellectual disability compared to “most males".
