    What is Stroke?
    A stroke is a situation in which brain cells die within a minute due to lack of oxygen. The person may lose the ability to speak, memory problem, or body can become paralyzed from one side. Stroke is always a medical emergency, if you believe someone else is having a stroke call for immediate medical help.

    There are two main types of strokes:

    • Ischemic stroke: It is a more common kind of stroke, caused by the blood clotting that blocks blood vessel in the brain.
    • Hemorrhagic stroke: it is caused when a defective artery in the brain bursts and fills the tissue with blood.

    The reaction after a stroke depends on where the stroke occurs and how much of the brain is affected. Minor strokes may results in minor problems such as weakness of the face, leg or arm, weakness on one side of the body,bladder problems,trouble in speaking. Major strokes may lead to permanent paralysis or fatality.

    Risk Factors for stroke:

    Chances of having a stroke increases if you have any of the following risk factor. Anyone can have a stroke at any age. Best way to protect from a stroke is to understand the risk and learn how to manage it.

    • Age
    • Family history of stroke
    • Hypertension
    • Obesity or overweight
    • Cigarettes Smoking
    • Diabetes

    Symptoms of stroke:

    During a stroke, every minute is very important. Immediate treatment can decrease the damage of brain that stroke can cause. By knowing the signs and symptoms, you can be prepared to take quick steps and perhaps save a life.
    Symptoms includes:

    • Sudden headache
    • Trouble in walking.
    • Loss of balance or coordination
    • Dizziness, Numbness, or paralysis
    • Trouble in speaking.
    • Double vision, blackened.
    • Weakness of the face, arm or leg.

    Prevention of Stroke

    How can stroke be prevented?

    One way to prevent a stroke is to be aware of a transient ischemic attack (TIA) – or mini stroke – if one occurs, the symptoms are similar to stroke. Knowing the symptoms of stroke can lead to earlier treatment and better recovery.
    Much of stroke prevention is based on living a healthy lifestyle, which include:

    • Identifying and controlling blood pressure
    • Not smoking
    • Lowering cholesterol, sodium, and fat intake
    • Drinking alcohol only in moderation
    • Treating diabetes properly
    • Managing stress
    • Being physically active
