Teal, or turquoise, is associated with emotional balance, serenity, creativity, calming, wisdom, spiritual grounding, and femininity. Teal awareness ribbons are used for a variety of different diseases including scleroderma, food allergies and ovarian cancer.
The term scleroderma refers to a rare group of diseases where the skin and connective tissues harden and tighten. While in some individuals, scleroderma only affects the skin, it can also harm blood vessels, the digestive track and internal organs. This terrible disease affects more women than men, and generally is onset between ages 30 and 50. There are varieties of treatments that can improve the quality of life, but there is currently no cure.
Food allergies are a response to food that is not normal, are triggered in the immune system, and cause the body to “fight” the food as if it were an invader. While many food allergies are relatively mild, severe reactions such as anaphylaxis are serious and can be fatal.
Teal ribbons are used to raise awareness of the following:
Products with teal ribbons on them such as bracelets, key chains and necklaces are a great way to raise awareness of the specific topics above, and can be used in any number of ways. If you need to raise money, consider getting bracelets engraved that can be used as thank you gifts for large donors or you can purchase them to resell to raise money. Nearly every organization has volunteers that go above and beyond on a daily and weekly basis, and awareness jewelry is a great way to commemorate their commitment to the cause and to just say “Thanks” for all that they do.
