    Added by My Identity Doctor

In this issue of T1Doc of the Rockies Gary Bowman informs us of the Optimist Club which is a club devoted to type 1 diabetes research and education.  Also the issue informs us of how the Optimists Club will be volunteering at Bandimere Speedway this summer by offering golf cart shuttles to handicapped visitors from the handicapped parking lots to their seats.  If you would like to volunteer please contact David Cooper.  If you want to help kids with type 1 diabetes but are unable to volunteer, the Optimist Club is always willing to take donations.

The Helping Hand Program to help uninsured and underinsured families at the Barbra Davis Center.   $80,000 has been budgeted this year to help families that are in a bind.  Last year the program helped 500 families.

Suzanne Pecoraro educates us about diabetes and kidney disease.  A couple ways to help slow or prevent kidney disease is by keeping blood pressure, blood sugar and blood cholesterol in target range.  By choosing low fat foods and avoiding saturated fat and to limit our sodium intake to less than 2400 mg/day.
