Safety Tips and Child Allergy Problems

Safety Tips and Child Allergy Problems

Calling all parents: If you have a child who suffers from a child allergy problem and want some tips for traveling with your children, then you’ve landed in the right place. Child allergy problems can be very scary. Depending on the severity of the child allergy, traveling in unsafe conditions can create a life-threatening situation. Fortunately, all is not lost. Traveling with children can still be a great time and an enjoyable experience if you take the necessary problems to deal with your kid’s child allergy issues.

If your child expresses asthma-like symptoms after interacting with certain foods or drugs, your child may have a child allergy. Only an allergist or a pediatrician can confirm this fact for certain. Consult them if you have any doubts. Common child allergy triggers include peanuts, milk products, bee and ant stings, certain painkillers, shellfish, and iodine.

Following these tips should go a long way to help you have a great vacation and avoid any complications because of a child allergy.

  • Call Ahead:
Make sure you secure that none of your child’s trigger allergens will be present. Call the airline and make sure that you’re getting on a peanut-free, allergy-free flight. If you’re taking a long flight, make sure that the staff prepares a special meal that is free of any of the target allergens. Take care to make sure that your child is not exposed to any of these substances in the airport or on the flight. Be sure to call the hotel and ensure that the room and the facilities are allergen-free. If they aren’t, make sure that you inquire as to which areas your child should not enter. Knowing where you are going and taking the right steps to prepare can help you travel with a child allergy and avoid any incidents.
  • Bring Spares:
If your child is vulnerable to anaphylactic shock, you know that you need to have the right medications on hand in order to save their lives. Make sure you keep several doses of epinephrine ON HAND, in your carry-on bag, as well as in your general luggage. An anaphylactic incident can happen at any time, and you need to be prepared if you’re going to be traveling with children with child allergy issues.
  • Be Prepared:
In the case that your child has a child allergy incident, make sure that you contact doctors and medical professionals in your target area. That way, if something happens when you’re traveling with children, you’ll know exactly who to call, and they’ll know what to expect.
  • Wear an Allergy Bracelet:
An allergy bracelet can save a child’s life if they suffer from child allergy problems. An allergy bracelet is a piece of metal that contains all of the pertinent information related to your child’s condition. If your child becomes lost or separated from you, or if you become injured and are unable communicate, then the allergy bracelet identifies your child as allergy-prone to all medical personnel. They will then go way out of their way to ensure that your child stays away from all trigger substances.
